A regularly scheduled board meeting of DYHA took place on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 7:45pm at Stamford Twin Rinks. Present board members were Todd Halloran, Frank Cataudo, John von Stade, Art Flynn, Jeff Eccleston, John Fraser, Larry Paredes, Lisa McCarthy, Nick Hathaway, Dave Kreppein, Dave Johnson and Gigi Williams. Todd Halloran opened the meeting with thanks to Pete Canelli for his scheduling efforts in the wake of the recent Storm (10/29/12), and the ensuing rink closures. Coaches Cataudo and Minnix were congratulated on their 3rd-ranked Midget Team's progression to the finals of the State Championship.
The Board discussed a communication to the DYHA membership regarding the importance of properly fitted hockey equipment. A note will be posted on the website and sent to the membership.
Pete Canelli discussed tryout timing. Arising from the discussion, ice bookings will be made.
Return to Play Policy – Concussions
The Board considered a proposed policy regarding players’ return to play following a doctor evaluation after signs and symptoms of a concussion. A discussion ensued after which the directors present at the meeting approved such policy, substantially in the form presented at the meeting.
The policy will appear on the Healthy Athletes/Concussion section of the DYHA website. The policy will also be included in the Manager's handbook and Coaches Education materials.
Gigi Wiliams provided an update on Voting Member representatives. House Directors Nick Hathaway and Dave Kreppein to assist with the appointment of a representative by each house team.
The date of the Annual Meeting is December 3rd, 2012. The meeting will be held in the community room at Darien Library. The structure and content of the meeting was discussed.
Mid-season assessment of Coaches and feedback discussed.
Lake Placid accommodations at the Marriott during the "A" team weekend received favorable feedback.
Frank Cataudo to prepare recommendations for the Midget program for the 2012/2013 season.
Supplemental Travel Team Mite C selected. One tryout was held due to Storm impact. 25 skaters, per coaches' invitations, tried out.
Status of coaches’ appropriate CEP (USA Hockey Coaching Education Program) Level being monitored by the Connecticut Hockey Conference. Coaches who do not complete their obligations will not be allowed on the bench for State Tournaments.
